Australia's longest-living former prime minister, Gough Whitlam, has moved into an aged-care facility at the age of 93, a newspaper report says.

The Daily Telegraph said on Wednesday that Mr Whitlam, who uses a wheelchair, has moved into Lulworth House, a facility attached to St Luke's in Elizabeth Bay, Sydney.

His wife Margaret, 90, is said to have been unable to manage her husband's care.

Mr Whitlam was Labor prime minister from 1972 to 1975.
