The Immigration Minister Scott Morrison says Operation Sovereign Borders is preventing tragedies at sea that occurred too often under the previous Labor governments.

Mr Morrison has issued a statement in response to revelations from former Navy personnel who have described the horrendous task of retrieving the bodies of asylum seekers from the ocean.
