Fortescue exec quits for Mormon church

Fortescue's Peter Meurs has resigned his board and executive positions for a "full-time international role" with the Mormon church.

Fortescue's director of development has quit the mining company to take up a full-time role with the Mormon church.

Peter Meurs has resigned his board and executive positions for what Fortescue says is a "full-time international role" with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

"His ability to inspire teams to deliver against stretch targets has delivered outstanding results, and we have all benefited from his clarity of thinking, passion for our business and strong values-based leadership," Fortescue chief executive Nev Power said in a statement to the ASX on Monday.

Mr Meurs joined Fortescue in 2010 as Director Development and was appointed to the board as an executive director in February 2013. He previously was managing director at Worley Parsons.
