Essendon are among four AFL clubs to have been fined by the AFL for failing to provide up-to-date information on the whereabouts of their players to the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
Essendon, Port Adelaide, Richmond and St Kilda were docked $2500 apiece.
AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon told AFL.com.au that no doping tests had been missed, but the league imposed the financial sanctions because anti-doping rules needed to be complied with at all times.
AFL players can be tested every day of the year.
In a separate matter, the appeal by the World Anti-Doping Authority against the AFL anti-doping tribunal decision not to impose sanctions on 34 past and present Essendon players for their role in the club's 2012 supplements scandal will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Sydney in November.
