Four men face possible life imprisonment for their alleged role in importing about $45 million worth of methamphetamine concealed in timber logs.
The men faced court in Perth last Friday, following an investigation which began in June, after a sea cargo consignment containing the timber logs arrived in Perth from Africa.
A total of 106 packages containing around 45.6 kg of methamphetamine were detected in nine timber logs, worth an estimated $45.6 million.
The shipment was then delivered to an address south of Perth, where two men, 42 and 54, were arrested and charged with attempting to posses a commercial quantity of an unlawfully imported border controlled drug.
Further investigations revealed two other men who were involved with the importation of the drug, including a 29-year-old Nigerian man who was arrested in Victoria and extradited to Western Australia.
He was charged with one count of importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug, as was a 33-year-old who was arrested in WA.
The 42-year-old will reappear at Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on August 31 while the other three will reappear on November 16.
