Four men who failed to return from a fishing trip off Tasmania's Bruny Island have been found clinging to their boat.

Four men who failed to return from a fishing trip off Tasmania's Bruny Island have been found clinging to their boat.

The men were due to return in their aluminium fishing boat at midday (AEST) on Monday.

Police in a helicopter found the men clinging to the vessel at around 7.15am on Tuesday.

They were winched to safety and taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital.

Police said the men were in a satisfactory condition but were being treated for hypothermia.
