Four GWS stars on cusp of AFL returns

Fit-again stars Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Phil Davis and Brett Deledio could all return for AFL premiership contenders GWS this weekend.

GWS coach Leon Cameron is nursing some AFL selection headaches as stars Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield, Phil Davis and Brett Deledio push to return against Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday.

Kelly, Whitfield, Davis and Deledio - among the first four players picked in a full-strength Giants side - are all likely to be declared fully fit in coming days.

Cameron may opt to make a conservative call on Deledio, who has been sidelined since round two with the latest in a series of calf injuries that have plagued his stint at GWS.

However, the veteran has already been medically cleared to return.

Kelly is considered a certainty to return after missing last Saturday's win in Canberra, while Whitfield and Davis will walk back into the team provided they get through training on Thursday.

The likely enforced omissions of Aidan Corr (ankle) and Adam Kennedy (concussion) could make Cameron's job slightly easier but tagger Matt de Boer admitted it'd be a tough selection meeting for the premiership contenders.

"A few big ins there ... that competition for spots and the depth we've got has been really important," de Boer said.

"Once you have a spot on the bus you don't want to give it up."

Deledio acknowledged he may have to wait a further week to return.

"It's a winning side, the boys are playing well, you don't want to make too many changes," the former Richmond playmaker told RSN.

The Giants have won just two of 15 games at the MCG, a list that includes the 2017 preliminary final and 2018 semi-final that ended their past two seasons.

De Boer pointed to his team's maiden victory in Geelong, which came in round four against the premiership favourites and so far is the Cats' only loss of 2019, as cause for confidence.

"We hadn't ever won down in Geelong until a few of weeks ago," the 29-year-old said.

"We hold no fears, we'll go anywhere and we'll take on anyone ... we're not intimidated by the ground.

"Obviously the 'G has a bit of an aura about it and it's the modern-day Colosseum but we'll prepare as if it's any other stadium."

Gun midfielder Jaeger O'Meara headlines the list of potential targets for de Boer to tag this week, with fiery defender James Sicily another leading contender.

"We could easily send someone to him (Sicily). He's a gun, so he deserves some attention," the former Docker said.
