Four police officers have been injured following a four-hour siege with a man and a fire that erupted in a Sydney garage.

Officers broke into the garage of the Botany Bay home on Wednesday around 3pm after a lengthy stand-off with a man who had reportedly barricaded himself inside.

When they entered a fire sparked, injuring the four officers and the man inside.

Reports suggest neighbours heard an explosion at the time.

The man and a police officer suffered facial burns and were taken to St George Hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.
