Enjoying a long overdue change of fortune on the injury front, Rio Olympics long jump finalist Henry Frayne has booked his spot on the Australian team for the upcoming world athletics championships.

Competing for only the second time in 2017, the highly-talented Frayne soared to 8.21m - his best competitive jump in five years - at a low-key meet in Switzerland on Sunday.

It lifted the 27-year-old to 14th spot on the 2017 world rankings, raising hopes he could emulate - or better - his seventh-placed finish at the Rio Olympics.

Frayne enjoyed his best season way back in 2012, when he claimed the silver medal at the world indoor championships.

The intervening five years have seen him battle a string of leg injuries.

"Second comp of the year this afternoon - 8.21 for 1st in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Despite cold conditions a great meet and happy to have a WC q," tweeted Frayne.

Training partner Naa Anang also claimed victory with a personal best of 6.68m at the same meet, increasing the likelihood that she will also gain a spot on the team for the world championships in London.

Across the border in Germany, countryman Peter Bol locked in a berth on the Australian squad for the August 4-13 world titles after bettering the 800m qualifying standard with a time of one minute 45.21 seconds.

The qualifying period for the world championships ends on July 21.
