Free meningococcal jabs for gay men in Vic

Victoria will offer gay and bisexual men free vaccinations for invasive meningococcal disease following an outbreak in Melbourne.

Gay and bisexual men will be offered free vaccinations to combat an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease in Victoria.

Eight cases have been identified across Melbourne since May, almost all in gay and bisexual men, the state's deputy chief health officer Dr Brett Sutton says.

The infection can lead to meningitis and sepsis, which can be deadly in up to 10 per cent of cases. Free 4vMenCV vaccines will be available from December 11 until the end of June.
