Free meningococcal jabs for Tasmanians

The Tasmanian government says thousands of young people have received free meningococcal vaccinations following an outbreak.

Thousands of young Tasmanians have received free meningococcal vaccinations following six cases, one fatal, in the state.

Health Minister Michael Ferguson said about 5000 people received free vaccinations in Hobart over the weekend, with a second round scheduled for August 18 and 19.

Tasmanians aged between six months and 21 are eligible following six cases of the disease since July and the death of a 16-year-old girl.
