Freo Port sale bill enters WA parliament

The WA government has introduced legislation to parliament enabling the long-term lease of Fremantle Port to the private sector.

A controversial bill for the proposed 99-year lease of Fremantle Port to the private sector has been introduced in the West Australian parliament.

Labor opposed the first reading of the bill on Wednesday, but the Nationals backed it despite publicly opposing the asset sale.

Premier Colin Barnett described the asset sale as a cornerstone of the state government's fiscal management plan to reduce debt.
