Fringe Aussies must grab ODI chance: Carey

Vice-captain Alex Carey says a host of Australian cricketers have another chance to grab their opportunity in Tuesday's one-day international against India.

Where some see a makeshift Australian one-day cricket side, Alex Carey sees opportunity.

The Australians could break a two-year stretch without an ODI series victory by beating India in Adelaide on Tuesday.

Australia lead 1-0 in the three-game series after a revamped team stunned the world ranked No.2 Indians in Sydney last Saturday.

The Australians toppled India without banned duo Steve Smith and David Warner and rested pacemen Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.

"The other night was a really big step forward and we can improve from that, definitely," Carey said.

"Obviously the three quicks that played in the Test series and played last series aren't playing this series.

"So it's a really good opportunity for a (Jason) Behrendorff, (Jhye) Richardson and (Peter) Siddle who all played really well the other night.

"It was a great opportunity for me at the top of the order, Peter Handscomb came back in.

"If you look across the list, there's so much opportunity for guys to put their hand up and really make a spot their own.

"Not only is it a good lead up to the World Cup, it's a really good opportunity for guys to say ' that's my spot, I want that spot' and I think we saw that the other night."

Allrounder Mitchell Marsh has rejoined the Australian squad after missing the series-opener after being hospitalised by a gastritis.

Marsh may not be recalled given a forecast of 42 degree temperatures in Adelaide on Tuesday as Australia consider sticking with their game-one winning formula.

"I don't know if there will be too much change, obviously a winning side is a good side," Carey said.

"To have some success in Australia against one of the best white-ball sides in the world would mean a lot for our cricket moving forward, the performance the other night was a really good step in the right direction."
