Tyson Frizell will be available for Kangaroos Four Nations selection despite missing St George Illawarra's final NRL match this season due to a knee injury.

NSW star Frizell missed the win over Newcastle with a slight meniscus tear.

The hard-running back-rower has enjoyed a breakout representative year with his performances for NSW and will likely be among the first named on Monday in Australia's train-on squad.

Dragons physio Tony Ayoub said after the Dragons win that the club erred on the side of caution in leaving Frizell out for fear he could make the injury worse.

However, Frizell will not undergo surgery on the knee after scans revealed the limited extent of the damage and will resume training on Monday to stay in the hunt for a Kangaroos berth.

Newcastle's Dane Gagai also enjoyed a standout State of Origin series in starring in another Queensland win.

Gagai will also likely be named in Australian coach Mal Meninga's train-on squad on Monday for players whose sides have failed to qualify for the NRL final series.

Newcastle coach Nathan Brown said he expected Gagai to be there.

"I like to think he will be spoken about," Brown said.

"He would definitely be in the mix.

"He was Queensland's leading tryscorer and more often than not he has played well for us."
