A senior coalition MP says the GST should not be extended to fresh food.

The Turnbull government says all options are on the table when it comes to tax reform, including changes to the rate and base of the goods and services tax.

Assistant Minister Michael McCormack says people would be discouraged from buying fresh food if the 10 per cent tax was applied and farmers would face extra costs.
