A man who scrawled racist graffiti on the front window of federal minister Josh Frydenberg's Melbourne office is wanted by police.

The message was written on the Burke Road office window in Camberwell at 2.30pm on Monday - a day after the federal election was called.

Mr Frydenberg on Wednesday said it was now a matter for police.

"This is not the first time this has happened," he told AAP.

A photo of a man, seen walking a white Maltese dog, has been released by police who wish to speak to him over the incident.
