Australia's talent and diversity have been on show on Monday as marching bands, cultural groups and floats making their way through the streets.
It's the culmination of the three-day Moomba Festival, where Melbourne opens its doors to world-class water sports and entertainment.
"I really thought it would be a once in a lifetime chance, because I come from Malaysia just to come to the Moomba festival," said one tourist.
The annual tradition spans over 60 years.
"This is my first time since 1975 when I water skiied here," said one woman from Perth.
The Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle, said at least 1.2 million people were estimated to have attended the festival over this long weekend.
"It costs us about 2.8 million to put Moomba on.
"But in fact it returns nearly $30 million dollars in economic activity to the city."
The unofficial theme of the year was food.
Two celebrity chefs were crowned the traditional 'Moomba King' and 'Moomba Queen': Guy Grossi, media personality and head chef of Grossi Restaurants, and Karen Martini, a TV presenter.
"It's all about fun and families and it's multicultural and its food," said Moomba Queen Karen Martini.
