Funding boost for Darwin Night Patrol

The Aboriginal organisation behind the Darwin Night Patrol says it's likely there'll be a need for the service for at least another decade.

The patrol responds to calls for assistance in dealing with intoxicated Aboriginal people or incidents that could become violent.

Its Aboriginal workers co-operate with Northern Territory police while attempting to prevent situations leading to criminal charges.

The service has been granted a further $25-million by the federal government and the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Organisation, which runs the patrol, says it will fund vital work.

Its CEO, Ilana Eldridge, has told Murray Silby the funding will give the night patrol greater funding security.
