Needs-based education funding for NSW government schools will be increased by eight per cent to more than $1 billion, Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced.

The $1.09 billion, allocated to schools based on student needs, will fund targeted numeracy and literacy programs as well as teacher training, Ms Berejiklian said on Wednesday.

The funding increase in 2018 to the Resource Allocation Model is worth about $80 million, according to the premier.
