Further flood threat for Victoria

Heavy rains are set to continue across parts of Victoria, with flood warnings remaining in place.

Victorians are bracing for heavy rains over the next few days with flood warnings remaining in place along the Murray River and in the state's southwest.

Heavy rain could lead to flash flooding in parts of the state, with 24-hour totals of 20mm to 50mm forecast in areas including Mildura, Horsham, Bendigo, Maryborough, Kyneton and Ballarat.

Some areas may even see up to 70mm of rain to Tuesday afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.

"It also looks like Melbourne will get more rain, with 10 to 20mm possible overnight and into tomorrow," acting severe weather manager Steven McGibbony said in a statement on Monday.

The SES is warning Victorians to remain vigilant given the ground in many areas is already saturated from previous rain.

"We remind people to never drive through floodwater - it only takes about 15 centimetres of water to lose control of your vehicle," SES Victoria chief officer Trevor White said in a statement.

Further flooding is possible for Casterton with up to 20mm of rain possible over the next day.

The SES say the Glenelg River could again exceed the moderate flood level of 5.2 metres.

About two homes and three businesses were flooded and up to 40 properties were surrounded by water after the river peaked at 6.1m on Sunday morning.

Flooding affected eight homes and six businesses in Coleraine when the Bryan Creek flooded just after 7am on Friday.

Six of those homes remain uninhabitable until full safety inspections can be completed.

Twelve people have self-evacuated from Coleraine and Casterton, according to the SES.

Emergency relief assistance has been offered to affected residents in the region.

The government is providing a one-off payment of up to $520 per adult and $260 per child, up to a maximum of $1300 per household, to help meet immediate needs, including emergency food, shelter, clothing and personal items.
