Future of robotics on show in Brisbane

Some of Australia's best robots will do battle this weekend at the biennial Robotronica festival at the Queensland University of Technology.

Technology buffs will interact with robots this weekend as the Queensland University of Technology hosts its biennial Robotronica festival.

More than 18,000 people flocked to its Gardens Point campus in Brisbane in 2015 to see the advancements in artificial intelligence and virtual reality for themselves.

This year's free festival will feature more than 50 events, including battles between the country's best combat robots as they attempt to take out the 2017 Australian Robowars Championship.

Some of the robots and virtual reality programs that will be showcased at Robotronica will be previewed at a media launch on Thursday.

Sunday's event runs from 9am to 4pm at 2 George St, in Brisbane's CBD.
