Nat Fyfe's AFL star continues to rise, with the classy Fremantle midfielder winning his second straight best and fairest award.

Fyfe beat out ruckman Aaron Sandilands for the Doig Medal on Saturday night despite missing four games through suspension.

The award capped a memorable year for the 23-year-old, who also won the AFL Players' Association Most Valuable Player award, was named an All-Australian for the first time and also finished second in the Brownlow medal count.

Wingman Stephen Hill finished third in Fremantle's best and fairest count, with David Mundy and Hayden Ballantyne rounding out the top five.

But there was no room for Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich in the top 10, with the six-time Doig Medal winner failing to poll well despite booting 46 goals in 22 games.

Each player could earn a maximum 25 votes from every game, with votes cast by coach Ross Lyon and four of his coaching staff.

It was thought Fyfe's two suspensions would cost him a chance of winning, but the West Australian's hot form throughout the rest of the season was enough to edge him past Sandilands, who only missed one game.

In other presentations on the night, emerging key forward Matt Taberner was given Fremantle's rising star award, while defender Cam Sutcliffe was named player of the finals.

Fyfe will be back in action on Saturday when he lines up for Australia in their one-off International Rules Test against Ireland in Perth.

DOIG MEDAL VOTING:

* Nat Fyfe 283

* Aaron Sandilands 251

* Stephen Hill 238

* David Mundy 219

* Hayden Ballantyne 209

* Michael Barlow 205

* Cam Sutcliffe 198

* Lee Spurr 193

* Danyle Pearce 190

* Michael Johnson 179
