Gabriel suspended for Windies' next Test

West Indies paceman Shannon Gabriel will miss the second Test against Bangladesh after receiving a one-match ban following another code of conduct breach.

West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel will be banned for the second test against Bangladesh starting next week following a second serious breach of the player code of conduct within two years.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the suspension Friday after Gabriel pleaded guilty to making deliberate physical contact with Bangladesh opening batsman Imrul Kayes on the first day of the first test.

The ICC's match referee David Boon and the on-field umpires deemed that the 30-year-old's contact with Kayes, after bowling a delivery in the eighth over of the test, was avoidable.

Gabriel was fined 30 per cent of his match fee and handed two demerit points, taking his tally to five, after he picked up three during a home test against Pakistan at Jamaica in April last year. The two demerit points he received in Chittagong meant an automatic suspension of either a test match or two one-day internationals, whichever was scheduled first.

Gabriel was the West Indies' most successful bowler in the first innings of the first Test, returning figures of 4-70.

Following the two-match Test series, West Indies and Bangladesh play three one-day internationals and three Twenty20 matches next month.
