Libyans have received a rare glimpse into the mysterious private life of their once all-powerful ruler, as several home video clips emerged from the depths of Muammar Gaddafi's former residence in Tripoli.

And this was no footage of a rambling rant on state television.

The intimate home movies, which were obtained and released by Reuters, present Colonel Gaddafi's softer side with his family.

The Libyan leader sports a black and white tracksuit. He casually lounges on a couch in his tent outside the Bab al-Aziziya compound. Gaddafi can also be seen tenderly joking and playing with his young granddaughter.

"Am I not sweet?" Gaddafi asks, as the little girl laughs in feigned disgust while her aging grandfather sidles up for a hug.

"No," she squeals, tweaking his nose and wriggling away, prompting him to burst into mock tears.

Meanwhile, Libyan rebels continued their nationwide manhunt for the elusive leader on Wednesday.

Gaddafi's whereabouts are still unknown, but several reports indicated that he might be seeking to flee Libya into either Niger or Burkino Faso.
