Gaff, Cripps to boost Eagles against Pies

West Coast are set to be boosted by the return of Andrew Gaff and Jamie Cripps for their AFL grand final rematch with Collingwood at the MCG next weekend.

Cripps underwent surgery on a troublesome toe injury over summer, but made it through a WAFL practice match on Saturday.

The 26-year-old will be further assessed during the week before a final call is made on his availability for the match on Saturday, but Eagles coach Adam Simpson is expecting a positive result.

"He got through some good minutes, so we think he'll be available for selection," Simpson said.

Gaff missed the opening two rounds of the season because of the suspension hanging over from his punch on Andrew Brayshaw last year.

That moment of madness cost Gaff the chance to play in West Coast's premiership, but the Victorian is finally free to return.

West Coast will enter the match brimming with confidence following their 52-point demolition of GWS on Saturday night.

The Giants won the inside 50m count 62-47, but West Coast's rock solid defence and awesome marking power across the ground helped propel them to the 16.8 (104) to 7.10 (52) win.

West Coast beat Collingwood by five points in an epic grand final last year, but Simpson says the team has well and truly moved on.

"I'm sure there'll be memories of last time we played, but the challenge is just as big as it was tonight," Simpson said after the win over GWS.

Giants coach Leon Cameron bemoaned his team's poor use of the ball, especially going inside 50m.

But GWS could be given an important triple boost ahead of their home clash with Richmond on Saturday.

Giants ruckman Shane Mumford is available after serving his club-imposed suspension, while Josh Kelly (hip/knee) is also set to return.

Mercurial forward Toby Greene (calf) will push his case for a call-up during the week, but Cameron will need some major convincing.

"Toby would play with a broken leg," Cameron said.

"We've got to make good decisions. I don't know what that is yet. I'll get through that halfway through the week.

"He overstretched late last week with about eight minutes to go ... he was just a bit tight on his calf.

"Last year we learned. He missed about 12 weeks in a row with his foot. That's not the issue (this time). His foot is fine.

"He's had 10 weeks of good training. But we've still got to make good decisions."
