Awkward silence

Prime Minister Tony Abbott is no stranger to political gaffes. In 2011, a video surfaced that appeared to depict the prime minister saying "shit happens" to a group of soldiers following the death of Lance Corporal Jared MacKinney in Afghanistan.

When asked a question about the alleged comments in a television interview, Mr Abbott answered with 28 seconds of silence, to which the reporter responded "you're not saying anything, Tony."

Broken record

British Labour leader Ed Milliband was interviewed by the BBC about public sector strikes in the country. His response to every single question was exactly the same.

Fool me once...

There are too many George W. Bush-isms to count, but one of his most memorable moments involved his attempt at the aphorism "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Instead he said: "Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me... You can't get fooled again!"
