Paul Gallen's management has finally entered into negotiations for a four-round rematch with with his first professional boxing opponent, Herman Ene-Purcell.
Gallen, and manager David Riolo, originally knocked back Queensland promoter Brendan Smith's first two offers, but the pair found the $50,000 offer, which also promises a third of television revenue generated by the fight, too hard to refuse.
"Brendon and Herman certainly have our attention," Riolo said.
"The first bout between Paul and Herman was a great spectacle and I'm sure a second one would be no different."
The 34-year-old heavyweight launched his pro boxing career in February 2014, when he stopped Ene-Purcell in the second round in Sydney, after being knocked down in the first.
Since then, Gallen has gone on to win his three other fights, including defeats of fellow rugby league players Anthony Watts and Bodene Thompson.
The proposed date for the new Ene-Purcell fight is January 29 in Toowoomba, just one week before the Auckland Nines.
"I had a very positive conversation with David Riolo this morning and I thank him for his professionalism with this one," Smith said.
"David told me Paul is keen to finalise details for a re-match so that's a very positive sign.
"We have already sent David Riolo a contract worth $50,000 for Paul Gallen to sign.
"All we need now is a signature."
