The dawn service has started at the Anzac memorial site on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Hundreds of Australians and New Zealanders stood before three flagpoles by the Aegean Sea as the sky lightened behind the craggy ridges.

Australian Veterans Affairs Minister Dan Tehan delivered the first address following Aboriginal and Maori tribute performances.
