Foxtel has apologised to customers after the widely-anticipated premiere of Game of Thrones’ season seven was beset by a breakdown of its online viewing service.
Fans of the HBO series took to social media to vent their frustration, unable to watch the show on Foxtel Now.
The Pay-TV network apologised on Facebook, saying it was devastated by the problems which it blamed on unprecedented demand.
“Obviously this comes at a time when so many of our customers are wanting to watch the first episode of season 7 of Game of Thrones.
“We can assure you that we are doing everything we can to resolve these problems.
“We can also assure customers that as soon as the issue is resolved they will be able to watch the episode using the On Demand features of our service.
“Again Foxtel apologises for the frustration this situation has caused.”
The popular show is well-known for being among the most illegally downloaded programs, notably in Australia.
Last year more than one million people pirated the premiere of the show’s sixth season.
Some viewers were frustrated they were let down despite doing the right thing.
