Gammy's parents speak, father ashamed of sex convictions

A convicted child sex offender says a baby in the centre of an international surrogacy controversy will be "100 per cent" safe in his care.

David John Farnell and his Wendy, parents of abandoned surrogate baby, Gammy, spoke to Channel Nine on Sunday night.

David John Farnell and his wife Wendy deny claims they abandoned baby Gammy, who has Down syndrome, with his Thai surrogate mother.

Mr Farnell, who has 22 child sex convictions, has also told the Nine Network that he will not harm Gammy's twin.

"I hang my head in shame for that," he told Channel Nine.

"And I am deeply regretful of that. And I am so sorry to those people."

When asked if he could guarantee the safety of Gammy's twin, Mr Farnell said, "She will be 100 per cent safe because I know I would do everything in the world to protect my little girl."

Mr Farnel, who has three adult children, said that after receiving counselling in prison, and his sexual urges towards children "have 100 per cent stopped".

The couple have denied they abandoned baby Gammy in Thailand and say they wanted to bring him back to Australia.
