Australian Moto2 rider Remy Gardner still intends to race at Phillip Island this weekend despite a run in with Japanese authorities along with his father, motorcycling great Wayne Gardner.
The pair were being provided Australian consular assistance after Wayne was jailed in Japan at the weekend.
Wayne Gardner, the 1987 500cc world champion, was reportedly detained over his alleged involvement in a road rage incident before the Japanese Grand Prix.
Remy's place on the starting grid of the Moto2 class race at Phillip Island this weekend had been in doubt after he was reportedly detained over an alleged driver's licence violation.
"Despite recent media speculation and rumour, Remy Gardner is currently en-route to Phillip Island where his intention is to ride in the upcoming Moto2 race in front of his home fans," a statement released on Wednesday evening on his official website read.
"In response to the stories circulating in the press and on social media, he has not been charged with any offence relating to a road rage incident that occurred in Japan and looks forward to completing the season with Tasca Scuderia Racing.
"Remy has no comment in relation to the incident."
The statement made no mention of Wayne Gardner's current situation.
"We certainly have also provided consular support to Mr Gardner and his son," foreign minister Julie Bishop told the Nine Network on Wednesday.
"The details of this incident are being reported, but we've not been able to verify them.
"But we are continuing to provide whatever support we can while he is detained in jail in Tokyo."
Local police have charged Gardner with assault, accusing him of grabbing his alleged victim by the collar during a traffic incident in Hiyama, according to multiple news reports.
Remy Gardner is ranked 27th on the Moto2 world championship standings after 15 races.
