Federal Labor MP Gary Gray says he will not recontest his seat at the next election.
Mr Gray was first elected to the Perth seat of Brand in 2007 and was resources minister and special minister of state in the Rudd government after being his party's national secretary for seven years.
In a statement on Tuesday he thanked Mr Rudd, Julia Gillard and Bill Shorten and said Labor would form a "great government" when elected again.
He said that at his regular Brand electorate council meeting he had informed members "that after nine years I felt it was time to move on, and to support renewal in the WA Federal Parliamentary Party".
Mr Brand said he had discussed his decision with Labor leader Bill Shorten.
"I joined a union and the Australian Labor Party at the age of 16. After 41 years of continuous membership, seven years as national secretary and nine years in the federal parliament, I am pleased to say its time for renewal and regeneration.
"I wish Bill Shorten and my colleagues in the federal parliamentary Labor Party well. They are a terrific group of people, they will form a great government."
Mr Gray said he had offered his resignation from the shadow cabinet but would serve in whatever capacity Mr Shorten chose for him until the federal election later this year.
He survived a preselection challenge from rivals within his party late last year.
Mr Gray follows fellow West Australian MPs Alannah MacTiernan and Melissa Parke who have also announced they will not recontest their seats at this year's election.
Labor hold Brand, in Perth's southern suburbs, by 2.9 per cent.
