Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says gas producers have guaranteed to ensure gas is available for the Australian electricity market.
Mr Turnbull met gas industry chiefs on Wednesday for what's been described as a "frank conversation" about the energy crisis.
"So there won't be a repeat of a situation where a gas-peaking power plant is called on by the regulator to produce electricity during a heatwave, and there's no gas available," he told reporters in Canberra after the meeting.
"That won't happen again, consistent with the guarantees we've been given."
Mr Turnbull said the parties had agreed that gas market reforms would be accelerated.

There was also agreement to continue pressuring state and territory governments to revisit restrictions on gas development and exploration, following Victoria's recent decision to ban fracking.
The parties would meet again in a month, he said.
"It is utterly untenable, unacceptable, for us to be in a position where domestic gas consumers - whether it's generators, whether it's businesses and industry, or whether it's families - cannot have access to affordable gas," Mr Turnbull said.
