Newly adopted rising star Daria Gavrilova has earned a wildcard entry into the Sydney International.

Russian-born Gavrilova, who received her Australian passport in November, finished 2015 ranked No.36 in the world and won the WTA Newcomer of the Year award.

Gavrilova is currently playing in the Hopman Cup in Perth alongside Nick Kyrgios, with the pair defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev and Sabine Lisicki to open the tournament on Sunday.

Croatian-born Ajla Tomljanovic has also grabbed a wildcard ticket into the Sydney tournament, as she waits on her Australian citizenship.

The 22-year-old is playing in the Brisbane International where she will meet Carla Suarez Navarro in the first round on Monday.
