Gavrilova into China tennis quarters

Australian Daria Gavrilova has beaten Caroline Garcia of France in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing.

Gavrilova has won her third-round match 6-4 6-3 to set up a last-eight showdown with 16th seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

Svitolina caused a major upset on Thursday with a 6-3 7-5 win over top seed and Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Poland's No.3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska also won through to the quarter-finals, downing Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-3 6-1.
