A gay couple who planned to go to the US to adopt say they are ecstatic about a bill giving same-sex couples the right to apply for adoption in NSW.
Dwone Jones, 43, of Tamworth, said he had planned to go to the US, his home country, to adopt a child but the passing of this legislation had changed everything.
"We were planning to moving back to the states in 2013 for two years to go through the six-month to 18-month process," Mr Jones told AAP on Thursday.

"Now that this legislation has been passed, we will go through that process here in the hopes we don't have to move back to the States.
"It's amazing. I'm ecstatic. I think it's great that it has been passed."
Mr Jones, a business owner, said he and his partner had been together for almost seven years and wanted to start a family with two children.
"I'm African-American, he is caucasian. We come from completely different worlds, two completely different cultures," he said.
"We're successful, we are well-travelled.
"The life that we could offer a child or children would probably we be a lot more than most could offer and that's just not on a financial basis, that's also what we could expose them to as far as thinking.
"But, more importantly, we have a lot of love in our hearts that we want to share."
Mr Jones said that although some American states had laws allowing same-sex couples to adopt, he believed Australia was a more progressive country and a lot more open to dialogue and change.
