Gayle comments disrespectful: BBL

Remarks by cricketer Chris Gayle made to a female presenter during a live television cross have been condemned by game officials.

Cricket Australia officials have labelled comments made by Chris Gayle during a sideline interview with a female TV reporter as disrespectful and inappropriate.

After helping Melbourne Renegades to victory over Hobart Hurricanes in Monday night's Big Bash League clash in Hobart, the former West Indies skipper walked from Bellerive Oval after being dismissed and was interviewed live by Ten Network's Mel McLaughlin.

"Hopefully we can win this game and you and I can have a drink after," Gayle told the reporter who was left lost for words.

The player said his dismissal allowed him to "come to this interview to see you" and went on to tell McLaughlin there was no need to blush.

But the reporter was left visibly disturbed by the comments which sparked an uproar on social media where users criticised the sexist tone.

"I heard Chris comments and they're disrespectful and simply inappropriate," BBL boss Anthony Everard said in a statement.

"Well certainly be talking to him and the Renegades about it.

"This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females."
