A 20-year-old Palestinian man from Gaza has been killed in clashes near the border with Israel between Israeli soldiers and protesters against Israel's blockade.

Bilal Aweida was shot and killed east of Gaza City, Ashraf al-Qedra, Gaza emergency spokesman, told reporters, adding that a 19-year-old man was lightly injured by a shot to the leg.

Every Friday, young activists demonstrate close to the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel, waving Palestinian flags, chanting slogans and throwing stones at Israeli soldiers stationed on the border.

The weekly demonstrations protest the Israeli blockade imposed on the Palestinian coastal enclave since the Islamic movement Hamas came to rule in Gaza in 2007.

Young Gaza activists said there are also weekly protests against the 300-metre security buffer the Israeli army established on border with the strip.

Since an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Gaza Strip militants in November 2012, at least nine Palestinians have been killed and more than 20 wounded during weekly protests.
