Gbagbo's son arrested at ICoast airport

An Ivorian lawyer for Michel Gbagbo said the arrest of the former president's son was an abuse of his client's rights.

The son of Ivory Coast's former president has been arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country on a flight to Paris.

An Ivorian lawyer for Michel Gbagbo said the arrest on Friday was an abuse of his client's rights.

Attorney Ange Rodrigue Dadje said a judge has never issued a travel ban order to Michel Gbagbo.

Michel Gbagbo, who was first arrested with his father Laurent in April 2011, was paroled in July 2013 pending trial on charges including plotting against state authority.

Laurent Gbagbo refused to concede defeat after losing the 2010 election to now President Alassane Ouattara.

More than 3000 people died during post-election violence.

The former president is currently awaiting trial at the International Criminal Court on charges including crimes against humanity.
