Gold Coast's tourism bosses will only support the Logies coming to the Queensland city if it brings with it a promotional boost to the region.
Melbourne has ditched TV's night-of-nights with the Victorian government saying it couldn't justify a $1 million investment.
In the wake of the Victorian government announcement, Queensland's Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones said she wants to take the awards show north.
The Gold Coast appears the most likely destination.
Gold Coast Tourism chief executive Martin Winter said the move would get his organisation's support if it could be shown to be of value.

"If the opportunity was presented to showcase the Gold Coast in ways better than Melbourne has, then naturally we would welcome the chance," Mr Winter told AAP.
"From a value perspective, the return on investment would need to meet minimum requirements."
Mr Winter said Gold Coast Tourism would remain "positive, but uncommitted" until further details are made available.
Ms Jones wouldn't confirm if Queensland would be willing to provide a similar budget to Victoria.
"We will only contribute what drives good value for money for taxpayers," she said.
