Geelong will host its first officially-sanctioned international cricket match as part of a two-game package in Victoria for Australia's Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka this summer.
Cricket Australia (CA) has confirmed the MCG will host the opening match of the series on February 17, before Geelong's Simmonds Stadium hosts an international fixture for the first time since World Series Cricket two days later.
"We're committed to taking the game to as many parts of the country as possible and we continue to work with regional areas around Australia on how we can make this happen," CA chief executive James Sutherland said.
The series will then conclude in Adelaide on February 22, with CA confirming the city will also host a match on Australia Day for at least the next five years.
The Geelong fixture will make it the 22nd ground to host an ICC-backed international fixture in Australia.
More than 10,000 people packed into the ground for a BBL T20 exhibition match between the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades last summer.
It also hosted a tour match between the West Indies and a Cricket Australia XI last year, the first time any international match had been played at the ground since Australia took on a World XI during Kerry Packer's revolutionary competition in 1977-78.
Each of the three T20s will be played as double headers with women's internationals as the Southern Stars face New Zealand, with each of their matches also to be shown live on the Nine Network's main channel.
The Australian women will also host South Africa in a five-match one-day series in November.
