The Geminids meteor shower is hitting its peak but a full moon will outshine the celestial show this year.
NASA says the Geminids, which will peak on Tuesday night, are one of the best and most reliable meteor showers showcasing 120 meteors per hour under perfect conditions.
This year however, the peak coincides with a full moon and that could make all but the brightest meteors invisible to the naked eye.
NASA has advised sky watchers to head away from city lights to a spot with a wide open view of the sky.
Meteors can be seen in Australia on the night of December 13 starting around 11pm and are viewable until the early morning hours of December 14.
