Generation Y has more of an appetite for The Twilight saga than the blood sport of politics, a survey shows.

The survey of 1001 Australians aged 18 to 30 shows they're more interested in Stephanie Meyer's vampire novels, turned films, than state elections.

Seventy eight per cent knew about vampire character Edward Cullen, while only 32 per cent could name of the opposition leader in their home state.

Stumped on Governor-General

Even fewer young Australians (26 per cent) knew the name of Australian Governor-General Quentin Bryce.

The survey was conducted by PureProfile, on behalf of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

One of the most biggest earning films in Australia, The Twilight Saga: New Moon raked in more than $16 million on its opening weekend in local cinemas last year.
