Australian parents wanting to select the sex of their baby for non-medical reasons will have to travel overseas, with revised guidelines on assisted reproductive technology (ART) deeming the practice unethical.
The National Health and Medical Research Council on Thursday released the 2017 ART guidelines for clinical practice and research.
The guidelines state: "Sex selection techniques may not be used unless it is to reduce the risk of transmission of a genetic condition, disease or abnormality that would severely limit the quality of life of the person who would be born."
