German govt meets amid Munich shooting

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere was on a flight to the US for a holiday when gunmen began shooting up a Munich shopping mall.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, who was on a flight to the United States for a holiday at the time of a mall shooting in Munich, is interrupting his trip and heading home, the DPA news agency reports.

Chancellery staff met on Friday evening to assess the situation in Munich but Chancellor Angela Merkel was not present, DPA said.
