A man has been arrested in an east German town on suspicion of "planning a terrorist act," a state official says.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested in Eisenhuettenstadt, a town in Brandenburg near the border to Poland, on suspicion of planning an Islamist terrorist attack, according to state premier Dietmar Woitke.

Security sources told dpa the man had been planning to attack a festival in Eisenhttenstadt with explosives later this month.

A police spokesman in the east German city of Frankfurt an der Oder said explosives had been found in the man's home and that he was a German national.
