A German tourist fatally stabbed during an apparent road rage incident in Brisbane was nearly at the place he was staying when he was killed.
The 30-year-old man was probably heading home for the night with a friend when he was repeatedly knifed in the abdomen and back after an argument at the intersection of Milton Road and Petrie Terrace early on Friday morning.
"The injuries were significant," Detective Superintendent Tony Fleming told reporters on Friday afternoon.

Homicide detectives are looking for the knife and a man and women seen in a small vehicle, possibly a green Holden Barina, in the area around the time of the killing.
"It would appear at this stage there's been some sort of altercation or words spoken between the two males and the people in that car," Det Supt Fleming said.
"From the information we have voices were raised, there was yelling, and at that point the male (in) the car, it appears that he has produced a knife and stabbed the male person."
Paramedics had tried to resuscitate the man at the scene.
He was then taken in a critical condition to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, where he died on Friday.
There's no road crossing at the scene of the killing and police are investigating if the German man and friend were walking over the road when the argument began.
Police are yet to notify family of the man, who has been in Australia for "some time".
"Today's a tragedy," Det Supt Fleming said.
"There's a family on the other side of the world that will be getting news that someone that they loved left home and is not coming home the way they expected."
CCTV will be examined as investigations continue and Det Supt Fleming has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
