Emerging AFL power GWS Giants have secured another of their talented young players, with versatile Adam Tomlinson the latest to sign a contract extension.

Just a few days after fellow defender Zac Wilson chose to stay with GWS until the end of 2020, Tomlinson opted for a two-year extension taking him through to the end of the 2019 campaign.

The 23-year-old Tomlinson has played 67 senior games since making his debut in the club's first season and was initially tried out in the forward half.

Valued for his endurance qualities as well as his height of 194cms, Tomlinson played a variety of positions before nailing down a key defensive role in the second half of last season.

"I'm really enjoying my new role in the backline and as a club we are certainly heading in the right direction," Tomlinson said.

"Sydney is a great place to live and this club feels like home so it was an easy decision to put pen to paper."

The decisions of Tomlinson and Wilson to stay at the thriving club was greeted with delight by their teammates.

"It's tremendous Tommo and Zac have re-signed, they are very good players," fellow Giants defender Matt Buntine told AAP on Tuesday.

"They are very good players and they showed it at the back end of last year come finals.

"They stood up when it counted, so it's great for the club to see them sign on.

"The culture we have, everyone wants to buy in it and hang around, so I'm sure there will be more re-signings to come."

Young ruckman Matt Flynn has also agreed a new deal that will keep the Giants Academy graduate at the club until the end of 2019.

Flynn, 19, had his first taste of senior football in last week's pre-season game against West Coast in his home town of Narrandera.

It wasn't all good news for the Giants on Tuesday, with off season recruit Matt De Boer ruled out for. to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The former Fremantle player, who was picked up in the 2016 draft after 138 games for the Dockers, will be sidelined for four-to-six weeks by an injury he suffered at training on Monday.
