Giants AFL final could be moved

If the Giants qualify for an AFL final against a major club such as the Sydney Swans, it would probably be held at ANZ Stadium.

Greater Western Sydney's chance to host a home AFL final at Spotless Stadium could be scuppered with chief executive Gillon McLachlan indicating a big-drawing clash would likely be shifted to ANZ Stadium.

The Giants have soared to third on the ladder with seven wins from nine matches to have them on track for a maiden post-season appearance.

McLachlan said any Giants home final would be played at the 24,000-capacity Spotless Stadium - unless they face an opponent who could draw a bumper crowd, such as cross-city rivals the Sydney Swans, who sit in fourth spot.

If that's the case, he signalled the match would probably be held at the 83,500-capacity ANZ Stadium.

"If it was a Giants-Swans prelim final I think there's a case to have that at ANZ (Stadium), certainly while it's still operating," McLachlan said.

"If it was a big enough game you could take it to ANZ, and I've had discussions with the Giants about that and they agree on that."

Despite the Giants' blazing success this season, attendance figures for home games have only risen marginally on previous campaigns.

Crowds for their three home matches at Spotless Stadium average 10,562, after 9612 watched Leon Cameron's side overcome Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

However bigger numbers are expected for their next home match at the venue in three weeks - a Sydney derby against the Swans.

McLachlan also noted that both matches at the Giants' second home, Canberra's Manuka Oval, were near sellouts.

"They're really just slipping into their gear now and the momentum is building," McLachlan said.

"They are one of the most exciting teams I've seen play for a number of years, and now is the time when I think people will actually take notice of them.

"The crowds have been building ... they're on a journey, everyone knows that."
