Greater Western Sydney are yet again sweating over the fitness of Phil Davis after the luckless co-captain injured his calf in Saturday's AFL win over Carlton.
Davis left the field midway through the second half at Spotless Stadium and played no further part in the 62-point victory, forcing coach Leon Cameron to shift forward Jonathon Patton back into defence to plug the gap.
It was the latest setback for Davis, whose AFL career has been plagued by injuries.
The 25-year-old has already missed three games this season because of a hamstring problem and was only this week cleared of damage to his toe sustained last weekend against Essendon.
He will undergo a scan on Sunday to determine the extent of the damage.
"We don't know if it's a week or two," Cameron said.
"It's disappointing because the last month he's been up and down with injuries."
Matt Buntine will also get a scan after pulling up with a tight hamstring during the match, though Cameron thought the defender would likely be fine.
The situation could leave the now third-placed Giants short in their back six as they look past next week's bye to the round-16 home clash with Collingwood.
Momentum will be key in the final eight regular games as they push for not only a finals appearance, but a favourable top-four spot.
Cameron expects backmen Caleb Marchbank (ankle) and Tim Mohr (hamstring) to return after the bye, though they may need to first play in the NEAFL.
"We've probably got a bit of thinking to do," Cameron said.
"It all depends, I mean Phil might be fine.
"Touch wood hopefully he is."
